Lovely, just lovely! Weighing in at 6.0% alcohol and one of the most
distinctive beers you will ever try, this Porter style dark ale is
brewed with rich Vienna and crystal malts and heavily accented with
Chocolate and Roast malts. This robust style typically has strong
and luscious coffee, roasted toffee and chocolate flavours - balanced by the sweetness & body of 6% alcohol. Combines well to
match with chocolate based desserts and beef and ale pies!
The Porter style is also rich in history - it was THE "main stream"
beer of its time, when first brewed in London in 1722! This style
was originally called an "Entire" as the malt runnings were combined
entirely together contrary to the typical brewing practice of the
day. It became known as "porter" due to its immense popularity with
the working class masses of teeming 18th century London. The pubs, or
"public houses", that served Porter became known as Porter Houses,
and a particular cut of beef famous in these pubs became known as a
Porter House Steak. In keeping with tradition, the Winter Ale is
naturally carbonated through a secondary fermentation in kegs and
bottles, containing a light yeast sediment - your guarantee
of a Real Ale with real flavour! Served through traditional beer
engine at Holgate Brewhouse. |
